Downey Osborne is delighted to be working with an established business to recruit an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis. Based in Newtownabbey, this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive finance team offering a condensed working week, study support and genuine opportunities for career progression.

About You

You'll be an ambitious finance professional looking to continue your studies while developing your experience in a varied accounting role.

Experience in:

  • Part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA, with continued progression through exams
  • Recent experience within a fast-paced finance environment
  • Assisting with month-end processes and reconciliations
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communication with colleagues across the business
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using accounting software
  • Managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Working independently as well as collaboratively within a team

About Your New Role

Always

  • Processing accruals and prepayments accurately
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register and intercompany accounts
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations and supporting month-end close
  • Assisting with the production of monthly management accounts
  • Building and maintaining financial reports using Excel and finance systems
  • Supporting the payroll process by collating and validating payroll information
  • Ensuring financial records are accurate, complete and up to date

  • Preparing VAT returns and assisting with statutory reporting requirements
  • Supporting year-end accounts and external audit processes
  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Monitoring financial controls and identifying opportunities for process improvements
  • Investigating account queries and resolving discrepancies
  • Liaising with colleagues across departments to gather financial information

Occasionally

  • Supporting finance system upgrades and process improvement projects
  • Assisting with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function
  • Taking part in charity, volunteering and wider company initiatives
  • Providing cover for other members of the finance team when required

Never

  • Having to wait until Friday evening to start your weekend, because with compressed hours you'll only be working one Friday in every four.
