About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support the Head of Accounts with a broad and varied workload spanning multiple client entities. - Handling VAT returns, including complex scenarios such as serviced accommodation and multi-entity structures
- Supporting intercompany reconciliations and assisting with group-level accounting across the firm's portfolio companies
- Liaising with HMRC on matters including PAYE, VAT, and compliance registrations; drafting and following up on formal correspondence
- Assisting with anti-money laundering compliance administration, including support for HMRC AMLS registration obligations
- Supporting corporate administration: Companies House filings, maintaining statutory records, and coordinating with solicitors and company secretaries
- Coordinating with external accountants, auditors, and legal advisers on client matters
- Managing business banking relationships: supporting account opening processes, preparing required documentation, and liaising with bank relationship managers
- Handling payroll administration and auto-enrolment compliance (e.g. NEST) for client entities
- Maintaining and updating accounting systems (QuickBooks Online or equivalent); setting up and managing chart of accounts structures
- Drafting professional correspondence on behalf of the firm, including formal complaints, dispute letters, and regulatory submissions
- Assisting with procurement and supplier management, including contract review and onboarding administration
- General accounts and office administration support to the Head of Accounts and directors

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
