TaxAssist Accountants provides a wide range of accountancy services to small businesses, including tax returns, annual accounts, payroll, and bookkeeping. The practice supports start-ups, sole traders, limited companies, and landlords across many industries, offering tailored, practical advice.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Assistant Accountant role based in Luton. The Assistant Accountant will support the preparation of tax returns, annual accounts, and bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of small business clients. Typical duties include:

The role also involves:
- Liaising with clients
- Gathering required documentation
- Responding to queries
- Supporting senior accountants with ad hoc administrative and accounting tasks
The successful candidate will contribute to delivering timely, compliant, and high-quality services in a client-focused environment.
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, reconciliations, and preparation of ledgers and journals.
- Experience with accounting software (such as QuickBooks, Xero, Moneysoft or similar) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple client files, prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate, well-organized records.
- Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues, both in person and in writing.
- Previous experience in a practice or small business accounting environment is highly beneficial.
- Working toward or holding an accounting qualification (e.g., AAT or equivalent) is essential.
- Willingness to learn, adapt to changing regulations and systems, and contribute positively to a collaborative team culture.
