Assistant Accountant / Accountant (Property Services)

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council

Salary

  • Band E: £38,220 – £44,075 pro rata
  • Band F: £45,091 – £51,396 pro rata (pay award pending) Salary on appointment dependent on experience

Hours & Location

  • 22.5 hours per week
  • Council House, Solihull
  • Hybrid working basis

About The Role

We have an exciting part-time opportunity for an Assistant Accountant / Accountant to join our Finance team, supporting Corporate Property Services at Solihull Council.

This is a key role where you’ll contribute actively to delivering high-quality financial management across the full financial cycle—from budget setting, monitoring, to final account preparation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing professional financial advice to non-financial stakeholders to support informed decision-making and maximise value for money.
  • Offering an opportunity for career growth through a development pathway from Band E to Band F.
  • Acting as a bridge between finance and Property Services teams (e.g., surveyors and project managers) to enhance financial understanding and control.

Band E (Assistant Accountant)

  • Support budget setting, financial monitoring, and final accounts production.
  • Produce clear, accurate financial advice for non-finance colleagues.
  • Generate financial reports, forecasts, and analyses for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Property Services teams (surveyors, project managers) to improve financial awareness.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and continual improvement in financial systems and processes.
  • Contribute to financial planning and service improvement initiatives.

Band F (Accountant)

(Additional responsibilities at a leadership level)

  • Lead budget setting and final account preparation.
  • Drive improvements in financial processes and long-term planning.
  • Work with senior managers to resolve financial challenges and implement efficiencies.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in a finance role across the full financial cycle (forecasting and budgeting).
  • Ability to interpret financial data and communicate it clearly to non-finance colleagues.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and multitasking skills to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Skills to build collaborative working relationships across multiple teams.

Qualifications

  • Band E (Assistant Accountant): Part-qualified or working towards CCAB or CIMA qualification.
  • Band F (Accountant): Fully qualified accountant with CCAB or CIMA.
