Assistant Accountant (Apprentice)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Reporting to: Finance Manager / Finance Director

Are you looking to build a successful career in finance while working towards a recognised professional accounting qualification? Do you already hold AAT Level 3 and want to develop your skills in a supportive and collaborative environment?
We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Accountant Apprentice to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of finance functions while receiving structured training and support to progress your professional accounting qualification.
Working within a charity environment, you'll play an important role in supporting the Finance team, developing practical accounting knowledge, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality financial services that make a real difference.
What you'll be doing
As our Assistant Accountant Apprentice, you'll gain experience across all areas of the finance function, including:
- Supporting month-end processes, journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and fixed asset accounting.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
- Helping maintain accurate purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
- Assisting with credit control and transactional accounting activities.
- Supporting the implementation of finance system improvements and automation projects.
- Preparing audit documentation and ensuring compliance with financial controls.
- Producing financial reports and analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Developing an understanding of statutory reporting, governance and financial regulations.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll receive ongoing coaching, structured learning and regular feedback to help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a successful accounting professional.
About You
We're looking for someone who is organised, analytical and eager to learn.
Essential
- AAT Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).
- Commitment to studying towards a recognised professional accounting qualification.
- A genuine passion for finance and accounting.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Good Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Lookups and data analysis functions.
- An understanding of transactional finance processes and a willingness to develop management accounting knowledge.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
Desirable
- Experience in an office, administrative or finance environment.
- Exposure to month-end processes and financial reporting.
- Experience using accounting or ERP systems such as Access Dimensions, Oracle, Sage or Xero.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with finance and non-finance colleagues.
- Experience identifying or supporting process improvements.
