Are you a detail-oriented Finance Assistant Accountant who thrives on turning financial data into clear insights, from producing accurate P&Ls and balance sheets, to delivering meaningful cost reporting and commentary?
Do you enjoy partnering with operational teams, acting as a trusted finance expert to support forecasting, budgeting, and continuous improvement while driving compliance and financial excellence across a fast-paced transport contract? Join our GXO Sainsburys team as Assistant Accountant!
You’ll play a key role in keeping the numbers on track. As an Assistant Accountant, you'll turn data into insight, support period-end reporting, forecasting, and budgeting, and work closely with operational teams to help drive performance. If you enjoy solving problems, building strong relationships, and making a real impact in a fast-paced operation, this could be the perfect next step for you. This is a full-time permanent opportunity, with 37.5 hours per week contracted. Core hours Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 (with flexibility required for business needs). This is a hybrid opportunity working on site 3 days per week and can either be based in our Northampton (NN4 9BX) site or Sherburn in Elmet (LS25 6JH).
Pay, benefits, and more:
We’re looking to offer a salary of £30,000 to £39,000 per annum (dependent on level of experience), and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme, life assurance, and access to our benefits platform, including retail discounts!

What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Bring the numbers to life by delivering weekly reporting packed with clear insights
- Own month-end by producing accurate internal and customer accounts, ensuring smooth processes and reliable P&Ls every time
- Keep us compliant and confident by preparing balance sheets that meet GXO standards and support SOX compliance
- Help shape the future by supporting forecasting, latest view submissions, and budget planning for both customers and the business
- Be the go-to finance expert for your sites, partnering with operational managers to provide guidance, challenge thinking, and drive better decisions through finance
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis, with the ability to turn numbers into meaningful insights
- Experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within a fast-paced environment (logistics experience is a bonus!)
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships and support stakeholders at all levels
- A proactive, can-do attitude, with a natural curiosity to investigate issues, solve problems, and drive improvements
- Working towards an accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) and committed to developing your finance career
