Ivy Rock Partners is supporting a fantastic Higher Education Institution in central London in recruiting an interim Assistant Accountant on an initial 6 month contract, with a view to the role becoming permanent in the future.

Operating within the Finance team, the Assistant Accountant will be responsible for a range of key financial duties. Working to the Head of Financial Accounting & Control, the role holder will deliver a high-quality customer service to students and staff.

The role holder will work with the Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Director of Finance, Financial Controller, Head of Financial Accounting, Financial & Project Accountant, Assistant Accountant and other members of the Finance team as well as a wide range of staff across the College and students. The role holder will also liaise with the College’s bank, auditors and insurers.

  • Reconciliation of all monthly payroll control accounts and raising relevant queries with the People & Culture team
  • Preparation of the quarterly VAT return
  • Reconciliation of the VAT accounts and VAT returns, ensuring that the VAT returns are reflective of the relevant transactions in the accounting system
  • Manage and develop fixed asset register, including the identification and posting of monthly additions and running/posting depreciation, to ensure accurate month end and year end accounts
  • Credit Cards – maintain and administer corporate card accounts, supporting the Accounts Payable team as required
  • Delivery of key monthly reconciliations to deadline
  • Preparation of allocated year end schedules
  • Budgeting/forecasting for payroll items allocated within the timetable
  • Detailed checking of the monthly payroll ensuring controls are followed and queries are resolved
  • Process relevant endowment journals
  • Prepare financial information to meet requests from external auditors during interim/final audits and for the finance-related aspects of internal audits
  • Prepare and upload journals to the finance system as required
  • Carry out other month end duties allocated in line with the timetable
  • Preparation and upload of statutory returns (including the quarterly ONS survey)
  • Prepare the annual insurance documents for review and sign off
  • Process insurance claims to stated service level agreements and liaise with the College insurers over claims
  • Provide financial analysis and support to the Head of Financial Accounting & Control
  • Maintain the Finance mailbox, responding to and redirecting queries as appropriate
  • Undertake any other duties requested by the Head of Financial Accounting & Control and any other senior members of the Finance team
