Contract Assistant Accountant Opportunity at Public Sector Organisation, Kilmarnock

A public sector organisation in Kilmarnock is seeking a Contract Assistant Accountant for a 12-month contract, operating at a rate of £200/day (inside IR35), based exclusively onsite.


About the Role

This position provides a crucial financial support function within a trust, requiring expertise in financial control, reporting, and management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and implement effective financial monitoring and reporting aligned with strategic financial vision and goals
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including:
    • Regular meetings with budget holders
    • Preparation of comprehensive financial reports
  • także ensure proficiency in treasury management, including:
    • Regular bank reconciliations
    • Efficient cash flow management
  • Provide tailored financial advice to non-financial colleagues
  • Uphold compliance with all relevant financial legislation, regulations, directives, protocols and policies, including:
    • Current financial legislation
    • Office of National Statistics adherence
    • Benchmarking standards
    • External funding partnerships
  • Cultivate and sustain beneficial relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., external funders, regulatory bodies)

Essential Qualifications and Skills

✔ Formally qualified in finance/accountancy (e.g., SCQF Level 9 – SVQ Level 3 or equivalent) ✔ Strong working knowledge of financial management systems ✔ Proficiency in technical financial and management accounting principles ✔ Ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts to non-specialist audiences ✔ Strong financial analysis and reporting capabilities, coupled with:

  • Numerical fluency
  • Interpretation and presentation skills ✔ Diplomacy, integrity and strict confidentiality in all interactions ✔ Polished interpersonal, communication and presentation skills ✔ Capability for change management within a financial environment ✔ Requirement to work both independently and collaboratively against tight deadlines ✔ Stereotactic adaptability to dynamic work conditions ✔ Hands-on, roll-your-sleeves-up attitude ✔ Customer-focused and professional approach ✔ Motivational enthusiasm

Relevant work experience includes:

  • Prior experience working within financial/accouting roles
  • Contribution to large-scale budget planning
  • Adaptation to financial implications of service reconstruction
  • Development of inter-service and external partnership relations
