The Role
We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to focus on Accounts Payable and Finance mailbox management.
The ideal candidate will have some initial experience of the accounts payable function and will have studied an entry accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT). Motivated to own a task fully, the successful candidate should be able to manage their own workload and operate without direct daily oversight but with the support of the team where required.
This role will be home based, but you will need to be able to attend our Office in Lee-on-the-Solent occasionally for team meetings and catch ups. You will report to the Financial Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts payable, matching POs and invoices
- Mailbox management, including answering questions, redirecting queries and collecting approvals
- Daily loading of invoices on to accounting software
- Assisting with month end processes
- Supporting the Financial Controller and wider team with the provision of accurate and well-presented financial data
- Responding to ad hoc queries from employees on finance matters
- Expenses management (weekly maintenance of expenses platform and user admin)
- Daily bank matching and month end reconciliation
- Assist with sales invoicing
- Completing ad hoc tasks the Finance team may require and supporting other projects as the need arise

The Ideal Candidate
- Experience across accounts payable or a similar accounts assistant position (1+ year experience)
- AAT Level 3 or 4
- Experience of transactional entry on a finance system, ideally NetSuite
- Experience of mailbox management
- Great organisational skills, with the ability to jump from task to task (as there will be a variety of different tasks to complete)
- A proactive and forward-thinking nature to suggest improvements to processes to make simpler and more automated
- Good communication skills, able to talk to vendors/customers and wider company contacts for queries on invoices etc
- Basic excel skills and knowing spreadsheets is advantageous
- The ability to self manage daily tasks through to completion
- Be comfortable working with detailed and repetitive processes whilst maintaining a high level of focus
- Easily approachable individual
Additional Info
This is a UK based, fully remote role. You will need to travel occasionally to Lee-on-Solent and London for team meetings and events. You will need to be based in or around the Hampshire area and have the right to work in the UK.

Our full-time hours are Monday - Friday, 9-5 (35 hour week), however we can consider alternative patterns and hours.
This is an opportunity to join a small team in an entry-level role to learn more about the accounts functions and the workings of a commercial finance function. It isn't going to be for you if you are looking to quickly climb the ladder or are a finance graduate.
