About the Role
We are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Assistant Buyer to join our Buying team in Oldham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has buying experience or is looking to take the next step in their Buying career. You'll play a key role in bringing innovative, on-trend products to market by supporting the full product lifecycle, from sourcing and product development through to customer presentations and order management.
Working closely with Buyers, Trading Directors, suppliers and our Far East sourcing teams, you'll gain exposure to international sourcing, product development, customer meetings and supplier negotiations, providing an excellent foundation for a long-term buying career.

The Opportunity
Buying at Ultimate Products is responsible for bringing innovative, on trend products to market at the right quality and right price, across a wide range of product divisions and brands. Our Buying teams work closely with Brand, Design, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance and Sales, as well as our overseas offices and supplier base, to deliver commercially successful ranges for major retailers. Key responsibilities include:
- Support the development and sourcing of new products, working closely with suppliers and Far East sourcing teams.
- Conduct market and competitor research to identify trends and opportunities, while taking ownership of products through the development cycle.
- Build strong supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, and support supplier performance management.
- Prepare customer quotations, support product presentations, and contribute to range planning and commercial decisions.
- Collaborate with Brand, QA and Compliance teams to manage packaging, artwork and product approvals.
- Attend UK and international trade shows, customer meetings and supplier visits, representing Ultimate Products and showcasing new ranges.
- Support and mentor junior team members while developing the skills and experience needed to progress into a Buyer role.
What We're Looking For
You will ideally have:
- A minimum of 12 months' relevant buying experience, whether in a buying, merchandising, procurement, sourcing or commercial role. (desirable but not essential)
- Strong academics at college or degree in any discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
- Confidence, resilience and a proactive approach.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in consumer products and retail.
- The ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.
- A passion for product and a desire to build a long-term career in buying.
- The ability to commute to our Oldham office.
