Assistant Buyer – New Look

Role Location: 4 days in-office (location not specified)

The Role

As an Assistant Buyer, you’ll shape the trend-forward, commercial products our customers love. This role blends buying, strategy, supplier negotiations, trend analysis, and cross-team collaboration in an energetic, fast-paced environment.

You’ll directly support the Buyer to:

  • Implement creative ideas while keeping a tight focus on commercial results.
  • Work with UK and international suppliers to align on costs, quality, trends, and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, Technical Development, and External Teams to ensure award-winning product assortments hit the market—smartly, stylishly, and on trend.

Key Responsibilities

1. Planning & Strategy

  • Align with strategic business objectives and translate them into actionable departmental goals.
  • Forecast market trends and customer preferences to guide product strategy.
  • Engage with Marketing and Ecommerce to support window displays, photoshoots, and campaigns.
  • Contribute insights to Department Strategy Plans to shape growth, innovation, and customer engagement.

2. Buying & Product Development

  • Support the entire product journey—from design brief to consumer-facing launch.
  • Work alongside Design, Merchandising, and Technical Development.
  • Negotiate optimal pricing and lead times with suppliers to boost margins while delivering premium quality.
  • Research and translate trends into commercial offerings—keeping the customer top of mind.
  • Ensure up-to-date Assortment Planning tools and systems reflect current data.
  • Explore and uncover cost-effective, high-quality sourcing routes both local and global.
  • guarantee shipment intake—tracking timelines and distribution for on-time launches.

3. Supplier & Relationship Management

  • Manages supplier KPIs and ensures requirements (e.g., design repeats, sampling) are met.
  • Represents New Look at sampling sessions and trade appointments—negotiate quality and logistics.

4. Trading & Analysis

  • Analyse sales data, stock levels, and unit performance and address peak-and-volume challenges.
  • Adapt product plans based on performance metrics, competitor insights, and market shifts.
  • Share strategic reports to highlight best/worst sellers and supplier performance.

5. Team & Team Development

  • Foster a collaborative, inspiring culture—mentoring and upskilling junior colleagues.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Design and Technical teams to deliver cohesive offerings.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Fashion deepest understanding—proficient in the latest garment markets, lingerie trends, and style predictions.
  • Commercial Agility: Numeracy and strong analytics to assess sales, stock, inventories, and product performance.
  • End-to-end buying process experience, including product development and supplier lifecycle management.
  • (No compromises) Lingerie experience is a must-to-have—insider marketing acumen is ideal to bridge creative and commercial objectives.
  • Negotiation skills: Ability to buy the best materials at the best price with surety for supplier relationships.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Expert at working across teams, offices, and even cultural trade challenges.
  • Proactive multi-tasker—airport ready: juggling planning deadlines, assessments, suppliers, and insights without missing a beat.

Experience Preference

  • Ideally, a commercial Assistant Buyer or a Senior Business Assist within the fashion/retail sector.
