Assistant Buyer - Lingerie & Swimwear
About the Role
As an Assistant Buyer at New Look, you'll be at the heart of delivering product our customers love. Supporting your Buyer, you’ll help bring creative ideas to life while balancing commercial priorities to build exciting, trending ranges.
- We’re a feel-good fashion brand, making style accessible for over 55 years, across our website, mobile app, and over 300 stores in the UK.
- Working 4 days in office, this is a fast-paced, hands-on role with variety. Perfect for someone passionate about product, customers, and fashion retail.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Strategy
- Use the Business Strategy to drive departmental success.
- Stay ahead of market trends and customer insights to guide product decisions.
- Analyse industry data, customer behaviour, and competitive landscape.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Ecommerce, and Design on campaigns (e.g. windows, photoshoots).
- Contribute fresh insights to Department Strategy Planning.
Buying & Product Development
- Support the product journey from design brief to launch—working with Design, Marketing, and operational teams.
- Negotiate with UK and international suppliers for optimal cost, margin targets, and quality.
- Translate trends into commercial, customer-focused product.
- Maintain up-to-date records, including assortment planning tools.
- Select the right sourcing routes/suppliers for each product line.
- Monitor critical path progress to meet targets for intake and distribution.
- Assist with styling and feedback during fit sessions on behalf of the Buyer.

Suppliers & Relationships
- Build strong, collaborative supplier KPIs and ensure sampling quality.
- Negotiate effectively to guarantee quality product, on time.
- Manage ongoing supplier relationships for sustainability and alignment.
Trading & Analysis
- Review trade reports and draft action plans to maximise sales.
- Stay adaptable to market changes, adjusting spontaneity while maintaining strategy.
- Share insights on product performance, supplier reliability, and trends.
- Conduct ongoing competitor analysis and inform decision-making.
Team & Collaboration
- Support colleague development through training and mentoring.
- Collaborate seamlessly with Merchandising, Design, and Technical teams.
- Be a positive role model, inspiring enthusiasm and best practices.

Requirements & Experience
- Strong grasp of clothing/fashion product, trends, and customer preferences.
- Commercially aware—able to analyse sales, stock performance, and numeracy.
- Experience supporting the full buying process and product development.
- Essential: Deep knowledge of lingerie.
- Negotiation skills for supplier communications and sourcing decisions.
- Sharpened communication abilities—multidisciplinary collaboration with teams/sellers.
- Organised, with capability to juggle multiple deadlines and critical paths.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
- Strong preference for graduates experienced as an Assistant Buyer or working as a Senior BAA in fashion retail.
