Assistant Buyer – Fashion Retail (4 Days in Office)

The Role

Our Assistant Buyer role is fast-paced, hands-on, and full of variety, perfect for someone passionate about product, customers, and fashion retail.

Key Responsibilities

You'll work closely with your Buyer to:

  • Plan & Strategise – Align with Business Strategy, analyse market trends, and drive product decisions.
  • Support Department Strategy Planning – Contribute fresh ideas and insights to shape future plans.
  • Buying & Product Development –
    • Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, and Technical teams to bring ideas to life.
    • Negotiate with UK and international suppliers for cost savings and margin targets.
    • Spot trends and turn them into customer-focused product.
    • Manage Assortment Planning tools and sourcing routes.
    • Attend fit sessions (when the Buyer is unavailable) and provide feedback.
  • Suppliers & Relationships –
    • Build strong supplier relationships and manage KPIs.
    • Ensure sampling requirements are met on time.
  • Trading & Analysis –
    • Monitor trade reports and adapt plans to maximise sales.
    • Conduct competitor analysis and share insights.
  • Team & Collaboration –
    • Support colleague development through training and mentoring.
    • Work seamlessly with Merchandising, Design, and Technical teams.
    • Be a positive role model, inspiring peers with expertise and enthusiasm.

Who You Are

This role is ideal for candidates with:

  • A strong understanding of clothing/fashion product, trends, and customer preferences.
  • Commercial awareness with numeracy skills (e.g., sales, stock, and product performance analysis).
  • Experience supporting end-to-end buying and product development.
  • Essential menswear expertise.
  • Negotiation and sourcing skills to secure best-value suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organisational ability to manage multiple products, deadlines, and deadlines.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Previous role as an Assistant Buyer or Senior Buying Assistant (BAA) in fashion retail.
