Assistant Buyer – New Look

The Role (4 Days In Office)

As an Assistant Buyer at New Look, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the product lines our customers love. In partnership with senior buyers, you’ll:

  • Translate creative vision into commercial success, balancing trend-led innovation with realistic financial targets
  • Collaborate with suppliers nationally and internationally, as well as Design, Merchandising, and Technical teams, to develop cohesive, on-trend ranges that meet deadlines and budgets
  • Ensure product quality, timeliness, and affordability—keeping the supply chain running smoothly from concept to shelves

This is a fast-paced, dynamic role ideal for someone with a genuine passion for fashion, product strategy, and retail.

What You’ll Be Doing

Planning & Strategy

  • Drive departmental growth by aligning with the Business Strategy
  • Module key market trends and customer insights to influence product decisions
  • Analyse department performance (customer trends, market share, opportunities)
  • Assist Marketing & Ecommerce in campaigns, photoshoots, and promotional windows
  • Contribute to departmental planning with fresh ideas and market perspectives

Buying & Product Development

  • Support the end-to-end product journey, from design brief to launch, collaborating with Design, Marketing, and technical teams
  • Negotiate supplier pricing while delivering on cost savings and margin targets
  • Spot industry trends and translate them into commercially viable, customer-focused products
  • Maintain Assortment Planning tools for accurate, up-to-date records
  • Select optimal suppliers (both in the UK and globally) for each product line
  • Monitor critical paths to ensure on-time intake and distribution
  • Attend fit sessions in the Buyer’s absence, providing product feedback and styling input

Suppliers & Relationship Management

  • Build and enhance supplier relationships, keeping KPIs aligned with performance targets
  • Proactively manage sampling requirements to streamline product development
  • Negotiate effectively to secure quality products within financial constraints

Trading & Analysis

  • Review trade reports and make data-driven adjustments to maximise sales
  • React swiftly to market fluctuations, challenges, or emerging trends
  • Share performance insights on products, suppliers, and top/slow-selling lines
  • Monitor competitor activity and implement strategies where needed

Team & Collaboration

  • Support and develop colleagues, offering mentorship and training where required
  • Collaborate closely with Merchandising, Design, and Technical teams
  • Set a positive example through expertise and enthusiasm

Who You Are

To thrive in this Assistant Buyer (Menswear) role, you need:

  • Strong industry knowledge of clothing/fashion trends and customer preferences
  • Commercial acumen, including numeracy skills with expertise in sales, stock, and product performance
  • Practical experience supporting the -full buying cycle and product development process
  • Essential menswear expertise (women’s wear experience a plus)
  • Confidence in supplier negotiation and sourcing strategies
  • Exceptional communication—able to engage stakeholders across teams and POs
  • Organisational and project management skills to handle multiple product areas under tight deadlines
  • Customer-first approach, with a talent for spotlighting trends and anticipating demand
  • Previous Assistant Buyer or Senior Business Assistant in Fashion Retail preferred
