Assistant Category Manager – Consumables & General Merchandise

Location: Nottingham, Beeston Contract: Permanent Recruitment Partner: Anastasia Walker


About the Role

Are you ready to make a difference? Join Boots as an Assistant Category Manager—based in Nottingham, Beeston, and at the heart of the Boots ROI team, supporting Ireland’s trading function to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

As customers evolve, so does Boots. This role focuses on deep consumer insights to shape a one-stop-shop offering for baby, electrical, beauty, photo, and nutrition products in Ireland.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Category Manager in delivering annual budgets and negotiating Joint Business Plans (JBPs) with Irish suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Irish and UK Trading teams, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Enhance the customer journey via sales plans and promotions.
  • Analyse sales performance to refine product ranges and in-store space allocation.
  • Foster relationships with UK counterparts to implement and adapt UK-led strategies.
  • Identify local opportunities in Ireland, launching products ahead of the market.
  • Lead and participate in weekly and monthly reporting calls across stakeholders in the UK and Ireland.

Must-Have Experience & Skills

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Previous experience as a Category Assistant or junior Buyer/Category Manager within trading.
  • Strong organisational skills for managing multiple brands across subcategories.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, with data extraction, manipulation, and performance analysis.
  • Exceptional communication skills, prioritising accuracy and a “right-first-time” approach.
  • Experience in supplier funding to optimise commercial potential.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to tailor reporting for stakeholders.
  • Willingness for occasional travel to Ireland.

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Points!)

  • Experience in Healthcare, Beauty, Baby, or Toiletries.
  • Awareness of social media trends.
  • Passion for beauty and a commitment to trading function career growth.
