Job Title: Assistant Chef

Location: Hazel Cottage School, Fazakerley, Liverpool L10 1LD

Hours: 25 hours per week | Monday to Friday

Salary: £14,773.75 per annum (not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | Term time only

Start: September 2026

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Chef to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a rewarding school environment where every meal you prepare helps pupils thrive.

Working alongside our Facilities Supervisor and catering team, you'll play an important role in preparing high-quality meals for our pupils and staff, ensuring the kitchen operates safely, efficiently, and to the highest hygiene standards.

What you will be doing

  • Prepare and cook healthy, nutritious meals for pupils and staff.
  • Support the delivery of varied menus, including meals for a range of dietary and medical requirements.
  • Help maintain exceptional food hygiene, cleanliness, and health & safety standards.
  • Assist with food preparation, serving, and kitchen organisation.
  • Receive and store deliveries, rotate stock, and help monitor food supplies.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Complete food safety and cleaning records in line with school procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an outstanding catering service.
  • Help create a welcoming and positive dining experience for our pupils.

About You

  • Has previous experience working in a professional kitchen, catering, or hospitality environment.
  • Holds (or is willing to obtain) a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Has a good understanding of food safety, allergens, and hygiene regulations.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team in a busy environment.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Hazel Cottage is a new school meeting the needs of autistic pupils aged 4 – 11 years who may have additional needs. We are situated in St Helens in the former St Patricks Church.

At Hazel Cottage, everything we do is centred around the individual needs of each pupil attending our school, with the aim that every learner is able to fulfil their individual potential and thrive. Alongside a broad, exciting, and memorable curriculum, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social interaction, sensory processing, and emotional regulation. We work towards every pupil being as independent as possible when they move on to the next stage of their education.

For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties.
