Assistant Civil Engineer - Infrastructure

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Civil Engineer to join a thriving, high-performing team with a proven track record of delivering innovative projects across the South-East and beyond. Our Ashford team plays a crucial role in regional delivery and offers hybrid and flexible working options to promote a work-life balance tailored to your needs.

You’ll have the chance to work on a diverse range of projects, contributing to significant developments across the region—or further. Beyond leading independent initiatives, you’ll collaborate closely with building, environmental, and transport colleagues to deliver holistic solutions.

As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you’ll join a close-knit team, with opportunities to lead and mentor junior engineers and technicians. You’ll take ownership of:

  • Leading technical project delivery and approval
  • Reviewing and shaping the work of your team
  • Ensuring high-quality design outcomes on time and within budget

Working hand-in-hand with clients, you’ll help influence the development of infrastructure schemes in the region. As Stantec grows, you’ll find abundant opportunities for progression and career development within our firm.

About You

You’ll need:

  • An MEng/BEng degree in civil engineering, with Chartered status (or working towards it)
  • A tactical, results-focused mindset, adept at balancing cross-functional coordination with an emphasis on quality
  • Strong communicative skills to engage internal and external stakeholders (e.g., utility companies, drainage authorities, highway authorities)

Your expertise should ideally align with:

  • Highway and drainage infrastructure design to deliver multi-disciplinary projects across their full lifecycle (concept → detailed design → delivery)
  • Proven success in stakeholder collaboration (mapping core client needs through technical excellence)
  • Experience mentoring junior team members and prioritising workload effectively

Additional strengths include proficiency with:

  • Civils 3D, MicroDrainage
  • Utility coordination tools/technologies

Crucially, you’ll bring a passion for creating quality infrastructure solutions and experience navigating processes with local authorities and regulators.
