Peripatetic Catering Assistant / Cook West Lancashire
Lancashire County Council’s catering team delivers meals to over 500 schools, serving 60,000+ children daily. We’re recruiting committed individuals to join our Peripatetic Catering Assistant / Cook role across schools in West Lancashire, working 15 hours per week (pro rata) on a permanent, variable hours contract.
About the Role
You'll play a vital part in our team-based catering service, ensuring children receive high-quality, nutritious meals through temporary placements in various schools. This role requires flexibility, reliability, and a passion for school dining operations.

A minimum of 15 hours is guaranteed, though hours may vary based on meal demand and service needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and set dining areas including moving furniture and floor setup
- Assist in food prep, cooking, and serving (including beverages)
- Deep cleaning of all catering equipment and dining spaces
- Administer kitchens independently when unit managers are unavailable
Essential Requirements
- Previous catering/food prep experience (highly valued)
- Strong teamwork and the ability to work autonomously
- Adaptable under pressure with initiative
- Exceptional customer service (school children & staff-first mindset)
- Clean driving licence with reliable transport (essential): you’ll need to provide Preston-area cover
- Work flexible term-time hours (Mon–Fri, term only)

Background Checks
Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, successful applicants will need a DBS disclosure.
