Assistant Curator – Visual Media and Archives

Location: Based at our London site with occasional travel between our sites in the Midlands and Stafford.

Type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: £26,851.50 per annum

About The Role

We’re recruiting for the Assistant Curator – Visual Media and Archives role, a permanent position at our London site. Reporting to the Curator of Photographs, you will collaborate with the Curatorial and Exhibition teams across all our museums.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Documenting, cataloguing, and researching collections
  • Responding to information requests from internal staff, researchers, and external enquirers
  • Supporting exhibition content development
  • Creating public-facing content for audiences

Travel between sites and external locations may be required when necessary.


Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate collection access in compliance with museum policies • Respond to enquiries—from colleagues, researchers, and public—within agreed timeframes • Support collections care, maintaining Museum policies and best practices • Assist in collection development, acquisitions, and stakeholder liaison • Supervise volunteers as needed • Collect data and produce reports in written, presentation, or discussion formats as required

  • Strong understanding of museum collections practice and administration (through experience or formal qualifications).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A proactive and positive approach to work, with enthusiasm for collaborative practices.
  • Skilled problem-solving, applying past experience and established principles to make informed decisions or guidance.
  • Ability to handle unfamiliar situations and challenges effectively, knowing how and when to escalate to senior colleagues.
  • A forward-thinking mindset, open to new ideas, adaptable, and eager to contribute innovative approaches.
