Assistant Designer – Womenswear

Joining Sainsbury’s (Tu) as an Assistant Designer within Womenswear is an exciting opportunity to work with a trusted brand that values strong design, quality, and innovation. This role sits within the Womenswear Design team, with prior experience in womenswear being essential.

As part of the team, you’ll support the delivery of inspirational, commercially driven designs that align with the category’s vision and ambitions. Working closely with Designers, suppliers, and cross-functional partners, you’ll help create original and exclusive product, leveraging your strong design software skills and organisation to drive newness across the range.

This role is ideal for creative, detail-driven designers with:

  • A solid understanding of womenswear products
  • Visibility of fit, fabrications, and trends
  • The ability to contribute to fashion-forward ranges balancing style, quality, and value

What you’ll do

As an Assistant Designer at Tu, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of seasonal and trend-led designs within Womenswear.

  • Collaborate closely with Designers and Senior Designers to help create original and exclusive womenswear products
  • Develop key seasonal styles and introduce newness across the range
  • Use Photoshop and Illustrator to create product briefs and design packs, supporting innovation
  • Contribute to commercially viable designs that meet the needs of a diverse womenswear customer
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, manage workloads, and work to critical path deadlines
  • Embed sustainability principles throughout your work

Who you are

  • A creative, detail-oriented Assistant Designer with a passion for Womenswear
  • Supported by previous experience in clothing design, thriving in a collaborative environment
  • Confident in Adobe Suite (Photoshop & Illustrator), with strong communication skills
  • Exhibits excellent organisational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks to deadline
  • Helps develop key seasonal styles, maintain material & swatch libraries, and contributes to sustainability initiatives
  • A proactive team player, motivated by continuous learning in a fast-paced, flexible environment

Essential criteria

✅ Previous experience in Womenswear design ✅ Fashion Design or Textiles degree (or equivalent) ✅ Strong Adobe Suite expertise (Photoshop & Illustrator) ✅ Ability to communicate clearly across functions and with suppliers ✅ Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills ✅ Strong time management with the ability to manage multiple deadlines ✅ Collaborative team player working with Design, Buying, Merchandising, Suppliers, and Marketing


Work Location

  • Hybrid role (split between home and the Ansty Store Support Centre, Coventry)
  • Requires a minimum of 2–3 on-site days per week, based on collaboration and business needs
