THE ROLE

As an Assistant Designer at ASOS, you’ll work closely with Designers/Senior Designers, shaping our ASOS DESIGN ranges for fashion-forward shoppers. If you love fashion design, interpreting trends, and thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment, this could be your opportunity.

We’re particularly looking for candidates with:

  • A strong fashion eye and clear creative direction
  • Excellent handwriting and taste level
  • An ability to translate inspiration into compelling product design (Technical development support is available within the team.)

The Design Team draws from world travel, street style, art, and culture to design the latest product across all ranges. It’s about newness and innovation, delivering exciting files for every fashion style our customers cherish.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Researching, developing, and designing ASOS DESIGN ranges, including:
    • Identifying key trends (shapes, colors, fabrics) for seasonal collections
    • Building a culturally relevant range for our global customer base
    • Ensuring commercial viability with fashion-forward intelligence
  • Reacting to sales data to strategically refine product direction
  • Trend forecasting by curating diverse sources (local/global trends, art, industry shows)
  • Supporting technical teams with initial fits, problem-solving in collaboration with designers
  • Supplier relations to share trend direction, technical feasibility, and creative details
  • Adhering to critical deadlines for optimal seasonal selling periods
  • Leading long-lead product development (including slow-fashion pieces) and short-lead Test & React collections

JOB FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Portfolio experience in womenswear and/or fashion accessories with a sharp design sensibility aligned to ASOS customer tastes
  • Preferably past experience with:
    • Trends and product development for an aspirational brand or high-street retailer (womenswear, footwear, accessories, or adjacent specialized brands)
    • Far East/European/UK supplier networks
    • Collaborating with Buyers on ranging strategy and first-to-market positioning
  • Commercial awareness of the ASOS brand and customer—balanced creativity with market relevance
  • Technical basic skills (Photoshop, Adobe, CAD, Miro)
  • Agile background with AI design experience (f.e., Midjourney, DALL-E) is desirable but not mandatory

*(Note: ASOS supports the transition of hands-on, creatively driven design into a commercial role—*technical expertise is helpful but not essential for entry.)


CATEGORY PLANNING & TRADING

Develop a proactive/trend-driven strategy to:

  • Align with ASOS’ OKRs (Objectives and Key Results)
  • Use data/analytics to trade strategic decisions, mitigate risks, and optimize future roadmaps
  • Propose creative adjustments to senior management based on trend intelligence
  • Warm into directional priorities (timely exchange programs and Heart initiative commissions)
  • First-to-market cleanup editorial sprints, leveraging team synergy

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Portfolio submission required (showcasing Fashion Design experience).

  • A fashion-forward mindset with a feel for ASOS customer aesthetics.

  • Time management skills to balance fast-paced agility.

  • Approach to problem-solving and strategic adjustments under pressure.

  • Ability to communicate department performance and vision to broader teams.

  • Willingness to travel internationally/globally (for supplier and inspiration trips).

  • Essential job soft skills include: Calm under pressure, collaboration, [a Kutting-edge modern communication & process clarified].

  • Ability to analyze data-driven trends and strategically apply insights in evolving range structuring.

Desirable (Nice-to-Have):

  • Proactive independence within flexible frameworks.
  • Experience thriving in agile/large-scale environments with exceptional prioritization.
  • AI exposure (f.e., Midjourney, Fermat, Autoboutput).
  • Start small and demonstrate a glowing sense of entrepreneurial research.
