Connect to your Industry

Join our market-leading Life and Pensions Strategy consulting team, recognised for deep sector expertise and trusted insight across the industry. This is a sector-specialist strategy role for someone who combines strong consulting skills with real understanding of the UK life and pensions market.

As an Associate Director, you will lead high-impact engagements with insurers, pension providers, and wealth firms; owning workstreams, shaping strategic recommendations, and building senior client relationships. You will operate at the intersection of strategy and execution, translating insight into commercially viable outcomes.

You will advise on:

  • Growth, corporate and business unit strategy
  • New product development and market entry analysis
  • Commercial analysis, modelling and business case construction
  • Strategic operating model design and transformation
  • Strategy input into and mobilisation of complex transformation programmes
  • Senior executive and Board level problem solving and facilitation

What sets us apart:

  • End-to-end impact: we go beyond strategy design to shape and deliver transformation; working alongside clients through execution, not just recommendation.
  • True cross-functional integration: seamless collaboration across Risk, Technology, Operations, Actuarial and M&A to deliver strategy grounded in real-world constraints and opportunities.
  • Deep sector specialism: a focused Life & Pensions practice with credibility across insurers, platforms, and wealth propositions.
  • AI-enabled strategy and delivery: we help clients identify where AI can create measurable value; from proposition design and customer journeys to operational efficiency, risk management and scalable transformation.
  • Entrepreneurial platform: opportunity to shape propositions, build relationships, and contribute directly to growth.
  • Build your brand: we invest in developing distinctive expertise, supporting you to grow a personal market profile while contributing to the continued growth of the practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Rather than simply managing delivery, you will shape the direction of engagements in real time - balancing analytical rigour, client context, and pragmatic execution. You will act as a day-to-day strategic partner to senior clients, building credibility through insight, judgement, and pace.

Our work is often at the sharp end of industry change - supporting organisations navigating major regulatory, market and business model shifts. Engagements range from focused strategic sprints to multi-year transformations, giving you exposure to both front-end strategy and real delivery impact.

What you’ll do

  • Own delivery: Lead engagements or critical workstreams end-to-end - from framing the question through to Board-ready recommendations
  • Set the agenda: Shape hypotheses, steer analysis, and adapt direction as insights emerge
  • Lead teams: Create clarity and pace for teams, coaching individuals to produce exceptional, insight-led outputs
  • Be the trusted voice: Engage confidently with senior stakeholders, influencing decisions through clear, structured storytelling
  • Drive quality: Act as a critical reviewer, ensuring outputs are sharp, commercial, and decision-ready
  • Build the business: Contribute to origination, proposals, and thought leadership - playing a visible role in growing client relationships
  • Strengthen the practice: Invest in developing people, capabilities, and a high-performance, inclusive team culture
  • Stay ahead: Bring a strong point of view on market trends, regulatory change, AI-enabled disruption, and emerging opportunities in Life & Pensions

Connect to your skills and professional experience

To be successful in the role, candidates should bring strong strategic analysis skills, experience in management consulting or equivalent and a background in the life, pensions, investment or wealth sectors. As an Assistant Director, you must have:

  • Proven direct experience in strategy consulting in the financial services sector with a consulting firm or in an in-house corporate strategy role.
  • Proven track record of leading teams through complex engagements to successfully deliver strategic initiatives within an organisation.
  • Strong ability to construct and evidence strategic arguments, with creativity in identifying evidence sources to support your positions.
  • A deep understanding of the sector, including at least one of: pensions, savings, wealth or life insurance; and a continued desire to build a career in this area.
  • A strong academic record, an undergraduate degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including strong judgement in materials for senior stakeholders.
  • Very strong time management skills to manage competing priorities, across client service, practice development, and business development responsibilities.
  • Experience of working in a professional services client-driven environment, including proven track record of successfully managing the client engagement lifecycle
