About the Role
Salary: £77,610 – £98,436 per annum

We are seeking a confident, compassionate, and operationally skilled leader to shape high-quality adult social care practice in neighbourhoods, communities, and frontline services. As Assistant Director for Early Intervention & Neighbourhood Operational Services, you will bring strong operational management expertise, safeguarding know-how, and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in a complex, fast-moving environment.
You will model Newham’s HEART values, champion strengths-based practice, and motivate hundreds of frontline staff delivering essential adult social care. Your leadership will create a culture that prioritises dignity, independence, and community wellbeing at its core.
Key Responsibilities
You will oversee a wide portfolio of statutory and preventative services, including:
- Access and Discharge, ensuring smooth progression of care paths
- Hospital-to-Home pathways, facilitating safe transitions
- Rapid Response teams, delivering crisis intervention
- Neighbourhood Long-Term Teams, promoting individualised care
- Reablement excellence, boosting recovery and independence
- Occupational Therapy services, enhancing daily function
- Support for residents facing homelessness or rough sleeping, addressing housing insecurity

Your role involves:
- Guaranteeing safe operational delivery of frontline services
- Strengthening partnership working with health, voluntary, and statutory bodies
- Maintaining robust safeguarding arrangements
- Driving budgetary and workforce management
- Leading integration to improve system flow and outcomes for residents
- Working with frontline teams to enhance independence and dignity for service users
Minimum Requirements
- Confident and compassionate leadership with the ability to motivate teams effectively
- Proven experience in operational social care management
- Strong safeguarding confidence and knowledge
- Ability to navigate a fast-paced, complex environment
- Administrative and budgetary oversight expertise
Location & Working Arrangement
- Minimum attendance: 3 days per week at Newham’s council offices
