Salary: £77,610 – £98,436 per annum

We seek a confident, compassionate, operationally skilled leader to shape high-quality adult social care practice in Newham’s neighbourhoods, communities, and frontline services.

As Assistant Director for Early Intervention & Neighbourhood Operational Services, you will:

  • Lead frontline delivery and strengthen neighbourhood practice.
  • Drive system flow and promote operational independence.
  • Model Newham’s HEART values—Honesty, Empathy, Aspiration, Respect, Teamwork.
  • Champion strengths-based practice across frontline services supporting hundreds of staff.
  • Place dignity, independence, and community wellbeing at the centre of professional delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a portfolio of services, including:

    • Access and Discharge
    • Hospital-to-Home pathways
    • Rapid Response
    • Neighbourhood Long-Term Teams
    • Reablement
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Homelessness & rough sleeping support
  • Ensure safe operational delivery, robust safeguarding, and effective management across performance, budget, and workforce.

  • Strengthen partnership working with health providers, voluntary sector peers, and statutory agencies.

  • Drive systemic integration, improve operational flow, and deliver better outcomes for residents.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with operational management experience in complex, high-impact settings.
  • Proven leadership in safeguarding, multi-disciplinary teamwork, and frontline services leadership.
  • Confident, compassionate, and values-driven approach to culture-building.

Additional Information

  • Minimum 3 days in-office weekly (based in borough/neighbourhood).
