Assistant Driller / Labourer
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role Description:
Arcadis are looking for a new Assistant driller / Site Labourer to be based from our Gloucester facility. The position will involve working throughout the UK across a variety of sites and sectors including manufacturing, petrochemical, and construction environments.
Whilst beneficial, no previous experience in land drilling is necessary as this is an entry-level role with great scope for promotion through to lead driller in the future, this role requires someone who enjoys working outside in a wide variety of site environments.
The role will require you to travel to sites across the UK during the working week and stay local to the drilling site Monday-Friday. PPE and Single Accommodation/Travel expenses will be provided.
Please note that, although the majority of work will be away, daily commuting to the depot will be required; therefore, the successful candidate will reside within a reasonable commute from Gloucester.
Role accountabilities:
- As an Assistant Driller, you will operate in a two-person team supporting the Lead Driller to complete drilling projects across the UK and occasionally in Europe.
- This will include driving to the drilling site, setting up and advancing boreholes using installing a range of drilling equipment, collecting ground samples, installing & monitoring of equipment, making the drilling site work areas safe, following H&S procedures, and other ad hoc duties.
- You will receive training from day one to become a competent Assistant Driller and will be enrolled in/on an NVQ on completion of your probationary period.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
