We’re looking for an Assistant Ecologist to work on our Environment & Ecology team.

Location: Birmingham – This role offers hybrid working, combining office and site attendance with home-based working.
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £28,000 – £38,000 plus company car/allowance

As an Assistant Ecologist at Avove, you'll support the delivery of environmental and infrastructure projects through ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation activities. Working alongside experienced ecologists, you'll help collect and analyse ecological data, contribute to biodiversity enhancement, and ensure projects comply with environmental legislation and best practice.

  • Collect accurate ecological field data in line with established methodologies and best practice guidelines.
  • Support data analysis, mapping, and report preparation.

  • Support project delivery by meeting deadlines and contributing to high-quality outputs.
  • Assist in implementing mitigation and enhancement measures on-site.
  • Work collaboratively with design teams, site teams, and subcontractors to ensure ecological considerations are embedded into delivery.
  • Support site-based activities, including supervision, ecological clerk of works (ECoW) duties, and monitoring compliance.
  • Support the coordination of environmental input into design reviews and project planning activities.
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) to build environmental knowledge and technical capability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
