Assistant Editor (PhD/Master's) - Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science
Assistant Editor – Entry-Level Role (Manchester, UK)
To strengthen our Editorial team, we are looking for recent PhD and Master’s graduates who are eager to stay connected to scientific research by helping researchers worldwide publish their latest results.
The position of Assistant Editor is an entry-level, full-time, and permanent role based in our city centre office in Manchester, UK.
Role Overview
This is a full-time, in-office role located next to Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester.
As Assistant Editor, you will:
- Support the editorial process for academic research journals in your domain of expertise.
- Organize the peer review process for submitted manuscripts and coordinate editorial decisions.
- Handle email communication between parties involved in the publication process.
- Collaborate with other members of the editorial team and production team.
- Ensure scholarly articles are accurately edited and published according to tight deadlines with a high degree of consistency.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A PhD (preferred) or Master’s degree in a field related to:
- Mathematics, Statistics, Information, Data, or Computer Science, including:
- Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence (Computer Science, Automation Technology, Automation and Control Systems, Human–Computer Interaction, Software Engineering).
- Electronic Science and Materials (Materials Science, Optical Information Science and Technology, Information Physics Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Electronics, Microelectronics).
- Data and Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Data Processing, Data Mining).
- Information Science & Data Science (Information Philosophy, Library and Information Science, Intelligence Science, Knowledge Management, Information Management, Coding Theory, Interactive Information, Information Theory).
- Communication & Network Engineering (Communication Engineering, Networks, Telecommunications, Signal Processing).
- Mathematics, Statistics, Information, Data, or Computer Science, including:

- Excellent written and spoken English skills.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proven ability to be a team player capable of working in a dynamic, international environment.
- Strong detail orientation alongside an ability to "see the big picture".
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
The role includes future career opportunities at conferences, visiting scholars, and marketing events, so applicants should be open to face-to-face engagement with the scholarly community and passionate about promoting open access.
- Previous editorial experience is not required, though familiarity with the academic editorial process is highly advantageous.
- Successful candidates will receive full training in editorial work, working closely with Managing Editors and participating in submission-to-publication article processing.
- Training will be job-based and tutor-supported over the first six months.
- Assay will depend on your background, but you’ll be assigned to journals related to your field of study or research.
