To strengthen our editorial team, we are seeking candidates with a PhD in a physical sciences discipline, ideally with experience in peer review and/or manuscript assessment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about scientific research and wants to remain closely connected to the research community by supporting researchers worldwide in publishing their latest discoveries. This is a full-time, home-based position.

The role will involve:

  • Assessing submitted manuscripts against a journal’s aims
  • Scope for suitability of peer review
  • Investigating research integrity issues (e.g. paper mill, ethics statements)
  • Rejecting/transferring unsuitable submissions
  • Handling email communication between the parties involved in the publication process
  • Collaborating with other members of the editorial team.

Requirements:

Essential

  • PhD in a Physical Sciences discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience in scholarly publishing, ideally within peer review or editorial office operations.
  • Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organised, with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, combined with the ability to see the bigger picture and exercise sound judgement.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, international environment.

Desirable

  • Experience using journal submission systems.
  • Experience in manuscript triage, editorial assessment and handling manuscripts through the peer review process.
  • Familiarity with publishing ethics and industry best practice (e.g. COPE guidelines).
