Job Role
Ringway Infrastructure Services is recruiting for an Assistant Engineer to join the Hertfordshire highways contract. This is an exciting entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in highways engineering, project delivery, and infrastructure development. You’ll play a key role in supporting the design, coordination, and delivery of highway maintenance and improvement schemes, working across the full project lifecycle from early planning through to construction and handover
As an Assistant Engineer, you will support the delivery of a wide range of highway projects, from small-scale maintenance works through to large, complex schemes.
You will gain exposure to engineering design, project management, stakeholder coordination, and compliance, working closely with experienced professionals and contributing to the successful delivery of schemes across the network.
Duties
Support the planning, coordination and delivery of highway maintenance and improvement schemes Assist with the full project lifecycle, from early contractor involvement through to completion Prepare project programmes, cost forecasts, risk registers and progress reports Produce and review engineering drawings, designs and technical documentation Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (DMRB, TSRGD, Red Book and local authority requirements) Assist with traffic management planning and site setup coordination Support permit applications, TTRO/TTRN submissions and statutory approvals Liaise with stakeholders including local authorities, suppliers, utility companies and internal teams Monitor project costs and support commercial activities such as variations and reporting Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations

Person Specification
Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline [Assistant...tfordshire | Word] Some experience or knowledge of highways, infrastructure or project delivery Understanding of relevant standards such as DMRB, TSRGD and CDM Regulations Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment Full UK driving licence
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full Time - 45 - Monday to Friday
