About the Role

You’ll assist in delivering pavement projects, ranging from investigation and design to on-site supervision, while contributing to meaningful infrastructure that supports communities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Design & Project Delivery

    • Generate pavement investigation reports, designs, and site supervision reports.
    • Conduct road inspections and provide treatment recommendations based on technical expertise.
    • Applying pavement design, maintenance, and construction principles across projects.
  • Technical & Engineering Assistance

    • Offer technical support to senior engineers in design teams, including cost estimation and project programming.
    • Develop drawings using AutoCAD and pavement designs in Civil 3D, adhering to DMRB and MCHW standards.
    • Draft contract documentation and technical reports, including drawings and calculations.
  • Client & Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
    • Support Graduate Engineers and Apprentices through mentorship and hands-on learning.

  • Quality & Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with WSP’s management systems, including health & safety, project management, and risk management.

What We Need

You’ll be part of a high-performing pavement engineering team delivering large-scale infrastructure projects. Ideal candidates will:

  • Show proven expertise in pavement engineering, including road and airfield designs.
  • Have experience with UK design methodologies, such as MCHW/DMRB, and pavement maintenance standards.
  • Understand material behaviour, failure mechanisms, and asset management principles.
  • Be a self-motivated overachiever, driven by professional growth and making an impact.

Requirements

  • Knowledge with technical processes:
    • Hands-on experience in pavement engineering investigations, design, and project delivery.
    • UK pavement practice familiarity—critical understanding of DMRB standards, harbour walls, and maintenance strategies.
  • Strong grasp of material properties, road asset management, and failure dynamics.
  • Ability to work confidently with clients and senior staff across project lifecycles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Incorporated/Chartered status pursuit at ICE, CIHT, or comparable institutions.
  • National Highways Accredited Pavement Engineer certification (desirable).
  • Experience with non-DMRB pavement design (advantageous).
