Assistant Environmental Consultant
We’re looking for an Assistant Environmental Consultant to work on our Environment & Ecology team.
Location: Birmingham – This role offers hybrid working, combining office and site attendance with home-based working.
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £28,000 - £38,000 Depending on experience
As an Assistant Environmental Consultant, you will support the delivery of utilities and infrastructure projects by assisting with environmental management, compliance, and risk mitigation across both design and construction phases. Working alongside experienced environmental professionals, you'll help ensure projects meet environmental requirements and are delivered responsibly and efficiently.
This is an entry-level opportunity, and we welcome applications from individuals looking to start or develop their career in the environmental sector. You'll gain hands-on experience across live utilities and infrastructure projects while developing the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to progress into an Environmental Consultant role.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of environmental requirements across utilities and infrastructure projects during both design and construction phases.
- Assist in identifying environmental constraints, risks, and practical mitigation measures.
- Help prepare and maintain environmental management plans, permits, and project documentation.
- Support environmental compliance activities, ensuring adherence to legislation, permits, and best practice.
- Undertake site inspections and audits, monitoring environmental performance and highlighting any issues.
- Collect and manage environmental data, maintaining accurate records and reporting.
- Work closely with design teams, site teams, and subcontractors to integrate environmental considerations into project delivery.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports and environmental assessments.
- Promote a positive health, safety, and environmental culture across projects.
- Develop your environmental knowledge and skills through continuous professional development.

About you
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geography, or a related discipline
- Basic understanding of environmental legislation, regulations, and permitting relevant to UK infrastructure projects
- Awareness of key environmental topics (e.g. pollution prevention, water management, waste, air quality, ecology interfaces)
- Some practical experience through placements, internships, or project work (e.g. environmental assessments, site-based work, or reporting)
- Ability to collect, record, and manage environmental data accurately
- Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and working with multidisciplinary teams
- Willingness to visit sites and work in outdoor or construction environments as required
- Full UK driving licence
This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Visa process. Applicants must therefore have, and maintain, an alternative right to work for the duration of employment.
