NO UNIFORM is an award-winning uniform design company founded in 2002 by designer Nicholas Oakwell and recognized as a UK leader in bespoke uniform design. The company works with a diverse client base, including independent restaurants, financial and office concierge services, international hotel chains, and cosmetic brands. NO UNIFORM focuses on creating designs that align closely with each client’s brand identity while reflecting current fashion trends.
About the Role
The Assistant Designer plays a key technical support role within the Design Department, working closely with the Creative Director and Design Team to translate creative concepts into accurate technical drawings and supporting documentation. The primary focus of the role is producing high-quality technical CAD drawings and garment specifications that enable the Product Development team to create samples efficiently and accurately. In addition, the Assistant Designer supports research, sourcing, presentation preparation, and the day-to-day running of the design studio.
Technical Drawing & Product Development
- Technical CAD Drawing: Produce accurate, detailed flat technical 2D CAD drawings (front, back and detail views) across all garment categories to support product development and manufacturing.
- Garment Specifications: Prepare precise technical drawings showing seam placement, darts, stitch details, pocket placement, closures, trims, and hardware to ensure clear communication with the Product Development team and factories.
- Technical Accuracy: Maintain exceptional technical standards, ensuring all CAD drawings are clean, consistent, proportionally accurate, and production-ready.
- Design Amendments: Update and revise technical drawings following design reviews, client feedback, and fit comments, ensuring all revisions are accurately documented.
- Product Development Support: Assist the Product Development team by preparing technical packs, artwork, and supporting documentation required during the sampling process.
- Library Management: Maintain an organized digital library of CAD drawings, technical files, and design documentation.

Research & Design Support
- Trend & Brand Research: Research luxury fashion trends, hospitality brands, fabrics, trims, and relevant market influences to support new projects.
- Design Support: Assist the Creative Director and Designers in developing concepts through research, reference gathering, and preparation of presentation materials.
- Material Research: Source suitable fabrics, trims, accessories, and footwear options that align with project requirements and budgets.
- Presentation Preparation: Assist in creating moodboards, color palettes, fabric boards, and visual presentations for internal reviews and client presentations.
Studio & Sample Management
- Studio Organisation: Maintain an organized design studio, ensuring fabrics, trims, samples, and seasonal materials are catalogued and easily accessible.
- Sample Management: Coordinate the receipt, organization, and tracking of samples, fabrics, and prototype garments.
- Lookbook Support: Assist with the organization and preparation of lookbook photography, campaign shoots, and collection documentation.
Communication & Collaboration
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Creative Director, Designers, and Product Development team to ensure technical information is communicated accurately and efficiently.
- Project Support: Assist across multiple luxury hospitality uniform projects, ensuring deadlines are met and work is completed to the highest standard.
- Continuous Development: Develop technical knowledge of garment construction, luxury tailoring, and manufacturing processes while building a strong understanding of the NO Uniform design philosophy.

Key Skills & Experience
- Excellent Adobe Illustrator skills with a strong focus on technical flat CAD drawing.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Understanding of garment construction, tailoring, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced luxury design environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Passion for luxury fashion, hospitality, and premium product design.
- A willingness to learn, develop, and support all aspects of the design process.
AI Design & Digital Innovation
- AI Design Tools: Confidently use AI-powered design platforms to support the creative and technical design process, generating concept visuals, garment variations, colorways, and presentation imagery.
- Prompt Development: Create clear, detailed prompts that accurately translate the Creative Director's vision into high-quality visual outputs.
- Design Refinement: Edit, refine, and develop AI-generated imagery into commercially viable uniform concepts that align with NO Uniform's luxury aesthetic and brand standards.
- Technical Integration: Translate AI-generated concepts into accurate technical CAD drawings and garment specifications suitable for product development and manufacture.
- Creative Efficiency: Utilize AI to accelerate research, visual exploration, and concept development while maintaining originality, creativity, and technical accuracy.
- Digital Awareness: Keep up to date with emerging AI technologies, design software, and digital workflows, recommending new tools and processes that enhance the studio's efficiency and creative output.
