An opportunity to make a difference

At Border to Coast our purpose is to make a difference and we’re looking for a keen and experienced first line assurance specialist to join our award-winning team.
As a customer-owned and customer-focused organisation, integrity is one of our values, as is our collaborative and sustainable approach. Our focus is to secure the pensions of over a million people who have provided valuable service to their communities and society. We’re the largest UK asset manager outside London or Edinburgh, and we provide innovative investments that deliver sustainable returns over the long term.

We are recruiting for this role to support the First Line Assurance Senior Manager in strengthening our first line assurance capability. You will help provide the business with clear and reliable guidance on risk and control assurance, as well as incident management, as the organisation continues to grow and evolve.

The role – what you’ll be doing

As an Assistant First Line Assurance Manager your role is hugely important and will include:

  • Partnering with business teams to identify, assess, and manage risks and controls in line with our Risk Management Framework.
  • Supporting incident management, ensuring incidents are recorded and managed promptly, including tracking actions, conducting root cause analysis, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate assurance testing and providing challenge on internal controls to help maintain a strong and effective control environment.
  • Planning and coordinating the annual AAF 01/20 control assurance programme, working closely with stakeholders across the business.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for Internal and External Auditors, helping coordinate and track requests and actions, and ensuring smooth and professional engagement.
  • Supporting first line risk, control and incident reporting activities, including preparing materials for senior leadership and Executive committees.
  • Supporting the development and enhancement of the Risk Management Framework and supporting systems, including user testing, feedback, and training.
  • Promoting a positive risk and control culture, helping colleagues understand their responsibilities and the value of strong risk management.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
