Company: Marsh

Corporate Description:

This is a highly visible role at the intersection of complex litigation, regulation, and commercial decision-making. Reporting to the General Counsel in London, you’ll lead our approach to E&O and professional liability disputes, shaping strategy from early assessment through resolution. You’ll have broad exposure across the organisation, partnering closely with business and risk leaders to keep practices current as the legal and regulatory landscape evolves.

This is a role for a confident, pragmatic lawyer who can protect the firm, influence senior stakeholders, and help enable Marsh’s growth with clear judgment and disciplined risk management.

This role combines courtroom and dispute-resolution experience with practical commercial judgment to protect the company’s legal and financial interests while enabling business operations.

Core Responsibilities

E&O & professional liability litigation

  • Lead E&O/professional-liability litigation (individual claims, multi-claimant actions, and coverage disputes), from investigation to trial and appeal.
  • Develop and execute cost-effective defense strategies; select, manage and oversee outside counsel, budgets and billing.
  • Coordinate with claims, underwriting, actuarial, risk and finance teams to evaluate reserve and settlement decisions and communicate legal exposure to executives and the board.
  • Negotiate and execute settlements, structured resolutions, and coverage/indemnity arrangements; manage settlement approvals and reporting.

Cross-functional legal strategy & risk management

  • Advise product, sales, procurement and operations on legal risk trade-offs involving professional liability.
  • Build playbooks and training for business teams on E&O exposures, incident response, data-handling best practices and restrictive covenant compliance.
  • Maintain litigation trackers, KPIs and dashboards; prepare executive summaries and board materials on exposure, trends and remediation measures.
  • Contribute to overall management of litigation team and legal department strategy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
