Senior Data Privacy and Digital Regulation Counsel
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced attorney to join our data privacy and digital regulatory legal practice, with a focus on the EU region but extending responsibilities globally. This role carries both strategic and operational weight, shaping enterprise policy and managing legal risk across business segments and corporate functions.
You’ll partner with functional and business teams to embed legal and compliance considerations into:
- Internal systems
- Product development
- Incident response
- Business operations
This position operates at an executive level within the Law Department, influencing legal and business strategy without direct reports. You’ll report to the VP & General Counsel, Data Privacy, based at our UK office in Bracknell on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities
Legal Counsel: Data Privacy Regulation (EU & Global)
Provides strategic legal advice on:
- Data export/localization laws (including GDPR, regional/national/local regulations)
- Cross-border data sharing, system implementations, and product offerings (e.g., cloud-based SaaS, XaaS, PaaS)
- Emerging technologies like generative AI and machine learning (ML)
Privacy Program Development & Administration
Works with cross-functional stakeholders to:
- Develop, implement, and administer a global sustainable privacy program to mitigate risk and support compliant growth.
- Collaborate with Government Relations to influence data privacy laws aligned with Honeywell’s business objectives.
- Establish mechanisms for intragroup/external cross-border data transfers.
- Design and maintain Honeywell-wide/data-specific training programs (including Accelerator modules).
- Review privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for assigned SBGs/functions.
- Foster a culture of high ethical standards in data privacy governance.

Human Resources (HR) Data Privacy Support
- Advises on GDPR compliance for:
- Employee, candidate, and contingent worker data processing (e.g., recruiting, onboarding).
- Performance management, benefits administration, workforce analytics.
- Monitoring technologies and HR system implementations.
- Reviews DPIAs, legitimate interest assessments, and policies for sensitive data transfers (including EU Works Council consultations).
- Partners with HR, IT, and compliance teams to manage privacy risks in:
- HR vendor engagements
- Global data transfers
- Investigations and employee privacy complaints
Marketing & Digital Strategy
- Thought leadership for data privacy in Marketing/Sales (e.g., EU ruling impacts).
- Develops initiatives to:
- Enhance Digital Marketing Policy execution.
- Maximize compliant data usage.
- Conducts PIAs/DPIAs for marketing-related activities using tracking technologies and emerging tech.
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
- Supports M&A transactions from due diligence to integration, focusing on data privacy risks.
- Refines the privacy compliance toolkit via learned lessons from deals.
Transactional Work & Third-Party Compliance
- Provides legal counsel on complex commercial transactions involving data privacy, including:
- Negotiations with vendors/customers (contractual data compliance provisions).
- Standardizes/globalizes:
- Privacy policies, data processing agreements, and notices.
- Vendor vendor contractor privacy compliance reviews (PIAs, e.g.).
- Mathematically data governance (data retention policies), cloud security addendums, audit rights, data flowdown terms
Data Subject Requests & Regulatory Engagement
- Addresses privacy complaints from internal/external stakeholders.
- Supports investigations and regulatory engagement (e.g., breach notifications).
- Advises on data subject/third-party requests (GDPR compliance).

Digital Regulation & Governance
- Administers data governance frameworks (e.g., classification, retention, access controls).
- Leads legal advice on EU Data Act (e.g., user data rights for co-generated data, contractual restrictions).
- Counsels on global data localization requirements (EU/China/India/etc.), with compliant architecture/contractual solutions.
Critical Skills
- Proven, independent leadership with influence on senior stakeholders.
- Deep expertise in:
- GDPR, EU Data Act, and regional/national compliance.
- Incident response (e.g., breach notifications, regulatory interactions).
- Contract negotiation for data access, rights, security cluses.
- Ability to synthesize legal complexity and translate for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications You Must Have
- J.D. (or equivalent) with legal practice admission in the EU.
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience, specializing in:
- Regulated environments/industrial sectors.
- Data privacy, governance, and digital regulation.
- Diverse experience with:
- Global data migration regulatory regimes.
- Investigations/litigation in data privacy/tech governance.
