Assistant Head Teacher - Behaviour and Attendance

Interim Assistant Headteacher - Behaviour or Attendance

1-Term Contract
West Midlands
Leadership Scale (Competitive Day Rate)

Exclusive to Hays Education

Hays Education is working in partnership with a successful and improving secondary academy in the West Midlands to recruit an Interim Assistant Headteacher for a one-term assignment.

This confidential opportunity would suit an experienced senior leader with a proven track record of driving improvements in either behaviour, inclusion and wellbeing or attendance and pupil engagement. The successful candidate will join an established leadership team and lead a critical area of school improvement during an important period in the academy's development. The role is based on a similar leadership brief to an Assistant Principal position focused on behaviour, inclusion, wellbeing, attendance and whole-school standards.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Headteacher, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for either behaviour or attendance across the school.
  • Lead, develop and implement effective systems that improve pupil outcomes and engagement.
  • Work closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding teams, staff, pupils and families.
  • Analyse data and identify targeted interventions to secure rapid improvement.
  • Support the wider senior leadership team in delivering whole-school improvement priorities.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion and excellent standards across the academy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
