Executive Assistant Headteacher – Greenhill Special School, Cardiff
The governors of Greenhill Special School seek a talented individual to collaborate closely with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in leading a dedicated and motivated team. This role will involve upholding and expanding the school’s strengths within its happy and successful environment.
About Greenhill School
Greenhill School is a highly respected special school with multiple sites in Rhiwbina, Ely, Llanishen, and Llanrumney (Cardiff), serving approximately 150 pupils. We foster a friendly, trauma-informed school with high aspirations for all our pupils.
At Greenhill, every staff member is a trauma-informed practitioner—this is an essential requirement for the Assistant Headteacher role.
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Headteacher will be expected to:
- Bring proven expertise as an exceptional practitioner in the field;
- Embrace our ethos of education as a collaborative partnership between pupils, staff, and parents;
- Place the welfare of children and staff at the heart of all decision-making and development;
- Demonstrate strong senior leadership and management experience, with measurable whole-school impact;
- Foster creativity and innovation in growing the school’s best practices;
- Understand and adapt curriculum design and reform effectively;
- Collaborate closely with governors, parents, and the wider community;
- Ensure the ethos “Nurture · Inspire · Achieve” remains a core priority across all activities;
- Show passion for the Curriculum for Wales and Welsh culture; proficiency in Welsh (Cymraeg) is highly desirable but not mandatory;
- Share expertise and best practice widely across other educational institutions.

Important Notes
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) is mandatory for this post.
- Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, all School Learning Support Workers must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
