Assistant Headteacher (Wellbeing, Support & ALN) – Vacancy
About the Role
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher who will provide strategic leadership across the school, with a core responsibility for Wellbeing, Support and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision.
The post-holder will:
- Ensure early identification of learner needs
- Oversee high-quality support and Individual Development Plan (IDP) processes
- Work closely with families, staff, and external agencies to secure strong outcomes for all pupils.
- Support the Headteacher in shaping the school’s strategic vision, driving improvements in teaching and learning, and fostering a culture of high expectations, equity, and well-being.
The role also involves:
- Leading on the monitoring of progress for vulnerable learner groups via data and classroom practice
- Ensuring statutory compliance across all areas
- Contributing to whole-school self-evaluation, staff development, and performance management
- Effective deployment of resources and staffing
- Maintaining strong governance communication with school trustees
- Modelling excellent teaching, promoting positive behaviour and inclusion
- Supporting the leadership team in securing high standards and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic oversight of ALN provision, wellness interventions and early intervention support.
- Data analysis to identify, track, and intervene in cases of educational need.
- Lead whole-school behaviours, safeguarding and well-being policies.
- Support the implementation of performance management and deployment frameworks.

Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, all appointed School Learning Support Workers must be routinely registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC). Pre-appointment registration reports must be provided promptly.
