Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Hotel Service Engineer to join the Marella Explorer.

Position Details:

  • Embarkation: 08/August/2026
  • Rotation: Short contract of 1.5 months till the end of Sep 2026. After a successful contract, may re-join in December 2026 for a full-time contract of 3 months +/- 1.
  • Requirements: Previous experience in this specific rank on cruise vessels and a strong track record of professional evaluations. Must hold Management level CoC as per STCW Reg.III/2.

Position Summary

Execution of repair and maintenance work in all areas carried out outside of the Engine Room. Responsible for effectively and efficiently overseeing maintenance of all hotel machinery, systems, and equipment in accordance with Company Policies, any National or International standards, and any other prescribed regulations. Supporting Engine operation when needed.

  • Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.

Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Hotel Service Engineer.

Subordinates:

  • AC Fitter
  • Plumber
  • Hotel Fitter
  • Their assistants

Safety Duties:

  • Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
  • Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  • Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
  • Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals, and safety devices are being used correctly. Delivers training, guidance, and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Valid STCW95 certification.
  • Valid CoC A-III/1.
  • Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
  • Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships as Hotel Engineer or in a similar role, and preferable experience with Wartsila engines.
  • Physically and medically fit.
  • Moral integrity is required.
  • Public Health, Sanitation, and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
  • Alaska experience is a plus.
  • It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard, and Port State Control experience.

Language requirements:

  • Excellent fluent English (verbal, written, and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Computer knowledge:

  • Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching, and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs.
  • The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules.
  • Works in all areas of the vessel with noise, light traffic, and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, operation, repairs of plumbing outside the Engine Room.
  • Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in the onboard system to cover planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Responsible to be familiar with the operation and location of all lifesaving, fire-fighting, and pollution prevention equipment.
  • Maintenance, operation, repair, supervision, and ownership of Hotel systems (to include but not limited to the following):
    • Galley and pantry equipment.
    • Provision equipment.
    • Laundry machinery and equipment (main laundry as well as Guest and Crew Laundries).
    • Spa equipment (e.g. Sauna, Steam bath, beauty parlor, etc.).
    • Provision Compressor Units, cold room, and refrigerator plant.
    • Dining, Bar, Housekeeping pantry equipment.
  • Support maintenance and repair with the Safety Officer and Staff Engineer (to include but not limited to the following):
    • Hotel Galleys Machines/Equipment’s; pipes and associated equipment.
    • Main Laundry and Launderette’s Machines/Equipment’s; pipes and associated equipment.
    • Scanship System; Food waste System plant and associated equipment.
    • Incinerator; associated machinery and equipment.
    • Evac System; Black and Grey Water Distribution System, associated machinery and equipment.
    • Shell Doors; associated machinery and equipment.
    • Pools and Jacuzzis; associated machinery and equipment.
    • Water System; Cold and Hot Water Distribution Pipes, Pumps, Chlorination associated machinery and equipment.
    • Ship equipment; Machines are brought in engine workshop (with supervision of person in charge of equipment); all maintenance needs to be agreed with consent of Chief Engineer/Staff Engineer.
  • Responsible for the AMOS, Stock/Parts, Work Orders reports, related to safe and efficient repair and maintenance of Machinery Under Responsibility (Job Description), associated machinery, and equipment.
  • Participates in the development of on-board operational plans in accordance with all technical, legislative, safety, and procedural specifications, to support the successful completion of maintenance periods and works closely with the Hotel Department on all maintenance issues, ensuring a minimal impact on the shipboard operation.
  • Reports completed maintenance to the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer for entry into the planned maintenance system.
  • Delegates work to subordinates.
  • Keeps the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, matters of significance, any issues that may compromise the ships safety, and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
  • Conducts daily communication and strong cooperation with the Safety Officer and Hotel Director to review progress and agree with Chief Engineer on work prioritization.
  • Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National, and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Chief Engineer any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.
  • Responsible for making entries and maintaining a correct and up-to-date Engine log book, technical or waste-related logbooks, Ozone Depleting Substances.
  • Monitors subordinates working/rest hours and overtime. Maintaining 100% compliance with Company requirements as well as ILO/MLC.
  • Executes strict practices to ensure that the engine room is operated in accordance with the following regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions.
  • All other duties as assigned.
