Assistant Investment Manager
We are looking for an Assistant Investment Manager to join our Property Investment team here at Blackfinch Group. The role is offered on a hybrid contract, spending at least 2 days per week at our impressive offices in Elkstone, Gloucestershire.
The Assistant Investment Manager performs a quasi-analyst/manager role, acting as an Investment Manager on some smaller, less complex deals and perform the role of an Analyst on larger, more complex deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Begin to take full ownership of certain areas within Investment products.
- Monitor current property loans and raise issues to senior management in good time.
- Build positive relationships with borrowers, brokers, surveyors, legal advisors and others throughout the life cycle of the property loans.
- Reviewing and appraising new lending opportunities that come in from borrowers and brokers, making recommendations on what questions and key issues we should ask before offering terms.
- Work with the finance team in the assessment of performance of underlying investee companies and the in-house legal team to assess key issues on new deals.
- Help to create and implement new controls, processes and policies as the team grows.
- Draft Heads of Terms, loan redemption statements, financial models and committee papers for review by the Investment Manager.
- Conduct site visits from borrowers with monitoring surveyors and highlight key risks.
- Act as an example for Investment Analysts and Investment Assistants and take an active role in their development.
- Contribute to new business development activities being performed by the team.
- Ensuring risk management procedures are correctly followed out and kept up to date by themselves and more junior team members.
- Implementing company lending processes and policies and challenging assumptions where necessary.
- Dealing with the administration of corporate client investments; including preparing investment portfolio allocations, deal sheets and day to day management of client investment.
- Contributing to the creation and reporting of management information on our investment companies, including analysing loan book metrics and key commercial trends.
- Conducting financial and commercial due diligence on prospective property transactions, advising managers on courses of action and;
- Be prepared to undertake any other duties commensurate with this level of position.

Skills & Experience
Essential Experience:
- Have communication, written and interpersonal skills.
- Be a good team player, proactive approach and commercial mindset.
- Have demonstrable experience in highly analytic roles.
- Have astute attention to detail.
Desirable Experience:
- Have 3 -5 years’ experience working in either Banking, Property or Asset Management in transactional roles.
- Have good interpersonal skills, including a flair for negotiation, influencing and persuading.
- Have an ability to simply articulate complex issues, both in written form and verbally.
- Have experience of working in high performance teams, be a strong team player and have an ability to pro-actively supporting colleagues.
- Have a demonstrable commercial mindset and pro-active approach to networking and growing a network of contacts within the Property lending sector

Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Hold a minimum 2:1 degree educated or equivalent.
- To have or to be working towards a professional finance qualification e.g. MRICS / ACA / CIMA / CAIA / CFA
