Assistant Librarian
Assistant Librarian – Full-time Permanent Role (35 Hours/Week, £42,900)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Librarian to support the planning and delivery of core Library services to members of the Inns of Court.
Location: Based within the Library, with scope for occasional remote working.
About the Role
This role involves:
- Providing a professional enquiry service, using both print and online resources
- Delivering legal research training, including sessions for the ICCA Bar Course
- Maintaining and developing legal research training materials and guides
- Contributing to Library communications, events, and outreach activities
- Assisting with collection management and the cataloguing workflow
We are looking for qualified librarians who:
- Enjoy working collaboratively
- Can communicate confidently
- Preferably have a background in academic or professional libraries
- Ideally, experience as a law librarian or expertise in legal subject areas

About Gray’s Inn and Its Library
The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn is one of the four Inns of Court, historic societies that educate and train barristers in England and Wales. As a non-profit organisation, Gray’s Inn provides scholarships, education, and library services to students and practising barristers.
The Gray’s Inn Library houses:
- Over 75,000 books, journals, and law reports, including rare books and manuscripts
- The only specialist collection of international law resources for the Bar
- Full access to standard legal research tools
- A professional enquiry service, document supply, and online resources
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver and maintain a high-quality enquiry service using print and online sources
- Lead and develop legal research training for members and students
- Update and enhance training materials, guides, and libraries
- Participate in strategic communications, events, and external outreach
- Support collection management and cataloguing workflows
