Maintenance Assistant (Assistant Maintenance Engineer) – Made In England Factory

About The Role
The Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of the Made In England factory— Keeping equipment, facilities, tools, and working areas in top condition. This is a hands-on role for someone who is practical, reliable, proactive, and eager to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment. By collaborating with the Maintenance team and the wider factory, this role reduces downtime, protects production flow, and fosters a safe, compliant, and well-maintained site.
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Maintenance Engineer supports planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring the factory runs efficiently through:
- Daily maintenance tasks across production, warehouse, development, and shared areas.
- Basic repairs to equipment, fixtures, fittings, workstations, storage areas, and site facilities.
- Routine inspections and preventive maintenance as instructed.
- Prompt responses to maintenance requests, escalating issues when necessary.
- Hazard identification—spot potential faults, risks, or unsafe conditions and report them clearly.
- Safe handling of equipment, benches, tooling, materials, and workspace adaptations as needed.
- High housekeeping standards in maintenance areas, stores, workshops, and shared spaces.
- Tool, spare part, and supply inventory control.
- Contractor support—ensuring safe, site-compliant access and guidance.
- Collaboration with Production to minimize downtime and uphold workflow.
- Stick to all health, safety, environmental policies, and company standards.

Health, Safety, and Compliance (Non-Negotiable)
- Always follow site health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and company standards.
- Use tools, equipment, PPE, and materials safely and correctly.
- Report hazards and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Promote environmental best practices, such as waste control, energy efficiency, and responsible material use.
- Ensure maintenance activities are minimally disruptive with clear communication to avoid interference.

- The MIE Maintenance team
- Production, Warehouse, Logistics, Development, Quality, Learning & Development, and Health & Safety
- External contractors
Who Can Stand Out?

- Practical experience in maintenance, facilities management, or manufacturing support.
- Basic knowledge of factory equipment, tool usage, repairs, and general building maintenance.
- Health & safety awareness specific to operational environments.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely while working safely.
- Proficient with hand tools and basic maintenance equipment.
- Problem-solving skills—apply logic and common sense under pressure.
- Attention to detail—proud of maintaining high workplace standards.
- Ability to prioritize tasks flexibly and calmly amidst shifting priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues at any level.
- Basic IT or record-keeping would be an asset.
