Assistant Management Accountant (Finance) – GB Materials Division Breedon Group

Role Overview The GB Materials Division at Breedon’s Head Office (Pinnacle House, Breedon on the Hill, Derbyshire) is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join their team.

You’ll support financial operations across quarries, asphalt/concrete plants, and specialist products fields—ensuring accurate reporting, reconciliation, and budgetary compliance.


Key Responsibilities

Core Financial Duties

  • Draft month-end financial journals for internal reporting.
  • Process and reconcile stock returns to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Assist in compiling site-area management accounts for operational oversight.
  • Support the Finance team, addressing business financial needs promptly.
  • Reconcile capital expenditure (CapEx) and coordinate fixed asset verification (including on-site check-ups).
  • Compile and analyse post-month-end reports, investigating and resolving BAU differences.

Compliance & Reconciliations

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, closing disparities at the month end.
  • Align and reconcile rent/royalty payments, ensuring vendor contracts are met.
  • Limit financial coding errors to protect accuracy.

Analytical & Strategic Support

  • Collaborate on forecasting and budgetary analysis for operational and overhead departments.
  • Act as a first-line point of contact for finance queries across GB Materials.

Qualifications & Competencies

Essential Skills/Qualifications

CriterionRequirement
Numerical LiteracyProficient in interpreting/indexing financial entries.
Excel ProficiencyFully operational in advanced Excel functionality (e.g., VLOOKUP, PivotTables).
H&S AwarenessMandatory training to uphold health & safety standards across projects.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Part-qualified (or fully-qualified) in:
    • AAT, CIMA, ACCA, or ACA.
  • Prior experience in a finance department, ideally in extractive/concrete materials.
