Assistant Management Accountant
Finance Department | Sheffield | Permanent | Full-time (37.5 hours)
Salary: £28k to £30k + study support (AAT/CIMA)
Shillito Group are working with a long-established Sheffield-based manufacturing business with a strong international customer base. The company supplies specialist engineered products into a range of industrial sectors across the UK, Europe, and beyond.
The finance function supports a busy, multi-entity operation with global transactions and multiple bank accounts, offering strong exposure and development within a well-structured team.
The Role:
This is a hands-on development role for someone looking to build a career in management accounting within a manufacturing environment.
You will:
- Take ownership of credit control and the sales ledger (~1.5 to 2 days per week)
- Develop towards month-end management accounts responsibilities for the remainder of your time
Working closely with the Finance Director, you will:
- Gain exposure to month-end reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Have a clear progression path towards full management accounts ownership
- Offer potential for longer-term Financial Controller roles

Key Responsibilities:

Credit control & sales ledger ownership:
- Debt chasing, query resolution, cash allocation, invoicing & credit notes
- Maintaining aged debt & monitoring credit risk
- Liaising with customers and internal teams to resolve payment issues

Support month-end close processes:
- Bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- Journals (accruals & prepayments), balance sheet reconciliations, preparation of management accounts

Assist with:
- Variance analysis, KPI & margin reporting
- VAT returns
- Audit preparation
- Purchase ledger cover & process improvements

Work within the ERP system, ensuring accurate & timely financial data.

Development & Progression:
- Full study support provided towards AAT or CIMA, including:
- Funded tuition

Person Specification:
Essential:
- Ideally part-qualified AAT/CIMA or equivalent experience
- Previous credit control or transactional finance exposure
- Strong numerical ability, high attention to detail, confident communication
- Good Excel skills, strong organisation & ability to manage deadlines
- Curious mindset with interest in financial performance beyond transaction processing
Desirable:
- Exposure to ERP systems
- Experience with month-end processes or journals
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments
- Multi-entity or multi-bank experience
