We're looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team.
The Finance team support, advise and allow the business to thrive. We’re here to navigate the team through all financial decisions, big and small, from day-to-day management of cash flow and making sure everyone gets paid (very important) to owning relationships with investors, partners, and other key stakeholders. We’re responsible, reliable, and committed to being a trusted partner to both our colleagues and suppliers.
About the role
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a foundation in finance who is ready to take the next step in their career. Joining our friendly and supportive Finance team, you'll play a key role in our day-to-day financial operations while developing your skills across month-end reporting, management accounts, budgeting and financial analysis.
You'll start by taking ownership of key transactional finance activities and, with training and support, gradually build your knowledge and confidence in management accounting. If you're organised, proactive and eager to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a full-time, hybrid role, with a minimum of 2 days office based per week. Our office is located in Bourne End (Buckinghamshire, SL8 5YS).
What you'll do:
- Process supplier invoices in line with company’s 30-day payment terms.
- Prepare and process weekly payment runs for both Virgin Experience Days (UK) and Virgin Gifts (US).
- Monitor and respond to supplier queries, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Set up new supplier accounts and maintain existing supplier records.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Support day-to-day financial operations, including reporting, provisions, cash flow, and stock control.
- Support the wider team with preparation of monthly management accounts, with training and mentoring to build your confidence over time.
- Gradually take ownership of P&L overhead cost schedules, investigating variances between actual costs and budget.
- Prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with quarterly royalty returns.
- Support with budgeting, forecasting and the year-end audit.

What you'll need:
- A positive, proactive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a small, supportive team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience in an Accounts Payable, Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
- An interest in developing your knowledge of management accounts and month-end processes.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS and other common functions.
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 is desirable but not essential.
- Studying towards, or planning to study, an AAT, CIMA or ACCA qualification would be a bonus.
