Job Title: Assistant Management Accountant

Location: UK
Contract: Full-time, 15-month Fixed Term- Maternity Cover, Hybrid
Salary: £30,987 pa
Reporting to: International Finance Manager

Principle Accountability

To provide high-quality management accounting, financial analysis, reporting and technical finance support as part of CAMFED’s UK and global finance team. The Assistant Management Accountant will support financial reporting across CAMFED’s international operations, including donor financial reporting, cash management, balance sheet reconciliations, grant compliance, monitoring of donor funding portfolios, management reporting, and financial support to colleagues in CAMFED’s operating countries.

The role contributes to strong financial management, accurate reporting, effective donor compliance, and supports managers with the financial information needed to make decisions across CAMFED.

Who We Are

CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education, supports young women throughout their primary and secondary school years, into economic training and further education, and onto leadership as role models, activists and philanthropists. Our focus is on vulnerable girls and young women in rural areas of Africa.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Proactively monitor and review donor financial reports against grant contracts, workplans and commitments, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Review weekly cash positions and support cash management processes, including the preparation and processing of overseas currency transfers.
  • Prepare, review and consolidate balance sheet reconciliations for CAMFED’s group accounts.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and support the accurate recording and recovery of regional payroll costs.
  • Support intercompany processes, including intercompany clearances, reconciliations and related financial administration.
  • Submit finance deliverables to the internal audit function as required.
  • Monitor and update donor funding portfolios to support financial planning, reporting and funding allocation.
  • Prepare and review audit and grant compliance documentation, supporting statutory audit, internal audit and external grant audit processes.
  • Prepare financial information as required for monthly reporting to management and quarterly reporting to the Board of Trustees.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and finance expertise to colleagues overseas.
  • Maintain and update exchange rates, ensuring consistency and accuracy across financial records and reporting.
  • Support the wider finance team with financial administration, reporting and housekeeping activities as required.
  • Undertake any other duties as required to support the finance team.

Person Specification

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience desirable
  • Studying towards or interested in pursuing a professional accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA) desirable
  • Experience in management accounting, donor reporting, financial analysis or financial reporting desirable.
  • Experience or interest in international development, the not-for-profit sector, or grant-funded programmes desirable.
  • Experience working across multiple currencies, international entities or donor-funded environments desirable.

Essential:

  • Strong numeracy skills and good financial awareness.
  • Good understanding of management accounting, reconciliations and financial reporting processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and present findings clearly.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues across different teams and locations.
  • Self-motivated, flexible and able to work effectively within a dynamic team environment.
  • Quick learner with a proactive and solutions-focused approach to work.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Right to work in the UK.
