Assistant Management Accountant

Control Accountant / Finance Assistant

This role may appear junior from aJob title, but it sits at the heart of daily financial operations. Core Responsibilities

You will act as a key financial liaison supporting the Finance Director and the wider team across transactional finance, payroll, and management accounting:

  • Invoices & Supplier Management

    • Process purchase invoices, including PO matching
    • Manage supplier accounts, handle queries, and oversee payments
    • Maintain up-to-date accounts payable/receivable
  • Payroll & Compliance

    • Process weekly and monthly payroll
    • Input data accurately, address employee queries
    • Ensure compliance and reporting deadlines are met

  • Financial Reporting & Close

    • Lead month-end close including:
      • Preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments
      • Reconciling balances and managing aged-invoice queries
    • Support management accounts, rolling forecasts, and KPI reporting
    • Perform variance analysis to drive financial decision-making
  • Fixed Assets & Year-End

    • Maintain the fixed asset register
    • Assist with year-end audit processes, tax submissions, and R&D allowance claims
  • Analytical & Process Improvement

    • Deliver ad hoc financial analyses for the leadership team
    • Recommend and implement process improvements
    • Contribute to departmental booking policies and controls
  • Record Maintenance

    • Ensure accurate, up-to-date financial systems records
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders while safeguarding sensitive data

Key Requirements

  • Qualification
    • Preferred: AAT qualified or part-qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA
    • Acceptable: Qualified by experience without formal certification

  • Experience

    • Minimum finance/accounts role experience
    • Bonus points for exposure to management reporting
  • Technical Skills

    • Proficiency in Excel (lookups, pivots, working with financial data)
    • – Payroll experience is not essential but is a strong advantage
  • Attitudinal & Soft Skills

    • Exceptionally accurate, meticulous, and deadline-driven
    • Comfortable balancing proactive analysis with reactive responsiveness
    • Clear communication with both finance and non-finance colleagues
    • Proactive problem-solver with a can-do attitude
