Assistant Management Accountant (Maternity Cover)
Fixed Term Contract
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Management Accountant to join our dynamic finance team as maternity cover. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving financial performance, analysing business trends, and providing insights to support decision-making. As the Assistant Management Accountant, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Management and Statutory Accounts:
- Preparation of the management accounts and posting journals on SAGE while ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Timely preparation of monthly reconciliation of financial data and ability to investigate any discrepancies.
- Support monthly budget versus actual variance analysis to track performance against financial targets and identify areas for improvement.
- Fully support the Financial Controller and Management Accountant through the year-end audit process.
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Prepare key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure department and business performance.
- Support the development and implementation of financial plans, budgets, and forecasts.
- Support variance analysis to track performance against financial targets and identify areas for improvement.
- Analyse product and customer profitability, identifying opportunities for margin improvement.
- Conduct scenario analysis to assess the impact of various business decisions on profitability.
- Support the development and maintenance of financial plans, budgets, and forecasts to support business planning.
- Maintain and develop the receivables and payables forecasting and planning.
- Support the inputs behind the operation of a cash flow forecasting model.

Business Partnering:
- Provide financial information and analysis to senior management helping them make more informed decisions and driving business strategy.
Compliance and Controls:
- Ensure compliance with Expense policy and internal controls.
- Implement and enhance financial processes to strengthen controls.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Ideally will be a part-qualified accountant, with experience of working in a SME retail company.
- Proven experience in management reporting, financial planning and analysis, or a related role.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Excel and analysis tools.
- Experience with SAGE 200, SAP Concur, and Zedonk would be a benefit.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to think logically.
