Assistant Manager
Assistant Manager (Retail/Pharmacy) – Boots

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership role—where your role challenges you to lead daily, shape experiences and take accountability for store success, balancing customer care, commercials, and team development. Exciting for those who thrive on impact and autonomy!
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Lead your team to achieve strong commercial and care performance
- Foster a positive, motivated team culture where people feel supported and valued
- Coach, develop, and manage your team through regular feedback, coaching and goal-setting
- Take daily operational responsibility, including planning, scheduling, and workload prioritisation
- Uphold high standards—ensuring the store is safe, clean, and easy to navigate
- Manage stock levels, cost controls, and loss prevention
- Ensure legal and operational compliance through audits, risk assessments and checks
- Use data and reports to identify store improvement opportunities
- Step into Store Manager’s absence, confidently leading and taking responsibility for decisions

Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications & Experience
- Experience leading teams in a customer-facing environment
- Ability to take ownership of performance, driving teams to deliver results
- Strong coaching and performance management skills
- Proven organisation and planning—rotas, absence management and workload prioritisation
- Understanding of compliance, safety, and operational standards importance
- A collaborative, team-based personality
- Confidence in using systems, data, and reports for decision-making
- Passion for balancing excellent customer care with strong commercial outcomes
Nice-to-Have (Indicative of Added Value)
- Experience in line managing staff
- Store operations management—stock, loss prevention, or audit experience
- Background in pharmacy, healthcare or regulated retail
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) OR willingness to qualify
Career Progression
Your journey at Boots with real leadership scope:
- Grow within stores as Assistant Manager with a focus (e.g. Operations, Beauty or Pharmacy)
- Progress to deputy General Manager or store leadership roles
- Move into back-office opportunities—roles in Commercial, HR, Marketing, Strategy and Supply Chain at Nottingham Support Office
- With support, training and incentives, build a fulfilling career
