Section Assistant Manager – Automotive Service, Maintenance & Repair
We are currently seeking to hire an Assistant Manager to work alongside the Centre Manager at Halfords Autocentre, the UK’s largest automotive service, maintenance, and repair business.

As an Assistant Manager, your prime objective is to support the Centre Manager in maintaining and improving workshop productivity, ensuring seamless customer journeys and a thriving service environment.
A hands-on approach is essential. You will be expected to balance your responsibilities between the workshop, supporting technicians, and managing daily sales and customer service functions.
We are looking for an exciting individual with hands-on technical and customer service expertise who is passionate about driving business performance and ample growth in the sector.
Responsibilities
- Provide productive management and leadership alongside the Centre Manager on all operational aspects.
- Drive profitability through process improvements, customer focus, and operational efficiency.
- Assist with the coordination of service parts, parts ordering, and inventory management.
- Support workshop technicians directly with complex jobs to ensure high-standard maintenance and repairs.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, improving customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Utilize technical expertise to solve service issues, conduct diagnostics, and supervise workshop operations.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards.
- Develop and train team members, creating an environment fostering talent and growth.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, particularly electric mobility innovations.
- Organize workloads efficiently, work with tight deadings, and optimize time management skills.

Requirements
- Previous hands-on experience as a mechanic (with a strong preference for those holding Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications in Light Vehicle Maintenance) or equivalent management experience in an automotive environment.
- Experience in coaching and developing colleagues in a practical, on-the-job setting.
- Strong technical and mechanical knowledge with the ability to wear both shoulders—administration and hands-on troubleshooting.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Upper-level communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with customers, technicians, and management.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Patience and tenacity to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment, ensuring consistent quality.
- Proficiency with IT systems, and a willingness to learn in-house processes and software tools.

- A base salary of up to £36,322 (with further potential progression onto higher positions).
